Antigua was founded in 1543, as the third capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala and partially destroyed by in 1773 by the Santa Marta Earthquake. In 1965 was declared “The colonial Monument of America” and in 1979 as “Cultural Patrimony of Humanity” by the UNESCO. You can walk over the famous cobblestone streets of Antigua, admiring its most important monuments: the architecture of its places of worship and convents makes Antigua the most famous colonial city in the world. |
